Forensic Nurse Examiner-Night Shift; Ben Taub Hospital

Job Summary

Provides nursing care to individuals who present to Harris Health System for treatment, evidence collection and injury documentation. Completes and documents physical, social and safety assessments on each patient. Interacts in a professional manner with the patient, family and multidisciplinary team members. Participates in education and implements prevention strategies within the community. Testifies in courts of law as an expert witness.

Responds to locations within Harris Health System to care for victims or perpetrators of trauma, assault or abuse.

• Education/Specialized Training/Licensure:
  Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing. Current State of Texas RN Licensure. Preferred certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner through IAFN or Texas Office of the Attorney General, or within two years of employment.
• Work Experience:
  
  Minimum of two years as a Registered Nurse with background in Emergency/Trauma, Labor & Delivery, Pediatrics, Intensive Care, and/or Forensic Nursing.
• Equipment Operated:
  Computer, calculator, fax, copier, camera.

  Weekends, Holidays, Flexible, Travel, On Call.
• Other Requirements:
  On-call accountability for Harris Health System department. Current knowledge and experience in forensic nursing and/or participation in SANE/SAFE programs.
