About the Opportunities
Virtus Healthcare Staffing is supporting the recruitment efforts for an open Heart Failure ICU Nurse Practitioner position at a leading academic medical center in Houston, TX. This is a full‑time nights role with no call requirement, offering 12‑hour shifts (paid for 40 hours), rotating weekends and holidays, and an 8% geographical differential for the medical center.
Requirements- Graduate of a Nurse Practitioner Program approved by the State of Texas;
Master of Nursing preferred. - Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) certification required.
- Current State of Texas license to practice professional nursing.
- National certification in specialty area (ANCC, AANP, or AACN Acute Care NP Certification).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
- 2-3 years RN or NP critical care experience required.
- Strong preference for cardiology experience and familiarity with heart failure populations (LVADs, ECMO, transplants).
- New NPs must have prior RN critical care experience in ICU, cardiac care, or CV recovery.
- Competitive salary range of $135,200‑$147,680 annually plus 8% geographical differential

- Work in a Level 1 Trauma Center and collaborate with nationally recognized teams in heart and lung transplantation, ECMO, and mechanical circulatory support.
- Supportive interdisciplinary team and robust administrative infrastructure.

- Provide comprehensive patient care through assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and in‑hospital follow‑up in collaboration with the attending physician.
- Manage critically ill heart failure patients including VV/VA ECMO, LVAD, heart and lung transplants, and post‑op cardiac surgery.
- Perform advanced procedures such as arterial/central line placement, intubations, chest tube removal, and thoracentesis.
- Round with interdisciplinary teams and collaborate on patient care plans.
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans and resources.
- Participate in clinical guideline development, quality improvement initiatives, and research activities.
- Serve as a mentor and resource for less experienced staff while promoting professional growth.
