Overview

The Experienced Clinical Nurse at MD Anderson Cancer Center manages patient outcomes by providing, coordinating, and supporting clinical aspects of direct patient care across the continuum of care. They impact quality of patient care, patient outcomes and use of resources in a designated area in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

Shift & Hours

Ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, an RN license, and at least one year of nursing experience in an acute care setting. Candidates must work the Evening/Night shift from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am, Monday – Friday, with rotating weekends and holidays.

Unit Overview

The Rehab/Neuro unit is a 32‑bed unit that cares for neurosurgery, neuro‑oncology, and in‑patient rehab patients. The patient population is mostly adults aged 18 and older. The unit focuses on acute care patients and Neuro Progressive Care patients who require close monitoring during the first 24 hours post‑surgery. Quality and patient outcomes are at the heart of our practice, and the team actively participates in Evidence‑Based Practice, unit and hospital‑based committees, and local and national conferences.

Salary

Hourly breakdown of salary range:

  • Minimum: $32.70
  • Midpoint: $50.48
  • Maximum: $68.26

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with physicians, other services, patient and patient's family to plan care and evaluate outcomes.
  • Improve practice by integrating results and theories of research studies.
  • Participate in data collection for current studies.
  • Demonstrate clinical competency and compassion in providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures, and managing emergencies; document care according to established standards.
  • Access, input, and retrieve information from computer systems; ensure continuity of care through appropriate discharge planning, patient education, and coordination of services.
  • Act as a patient and family advocate to uphold patient rights.
  • Train, coach, and assist team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources.
Education & Experience

Education Required:

Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.

Education Preferred:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Experience

Required:

All clinical nurses with less than one year registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program. This position is not eligible for the residency program.

Experience Preferred:
Must have at least one year of RN experience in a hospital or acute care setting.

Licenses & Certifications

Licenses/Certifications

Required:

Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN).

Licenses/Certifications Preferred:
Certification in oncology or other nursing specialty;
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification as required by patient care area.

Security & Integrity

This position may be responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, as defined in Section 113.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code and therefore may require routine reviews and screening. The ability to satisfy and maintain all requirements necessary to ensure the continued security and integrity of such infrastructure is a condition of hire and continued employment.
