Provides professional nursing service by administering anesthesia to surgical patients. Prepares and administers anesthetic agents to patients to reversibly depress bodily functions or otherwise desensitize a patient to permit the performance of medical or surgical procedures.
Key Accountabilities- Prepares and administers anesthetic agents to patients.
- Performs pre‑anesthesia evaluation to assess physiological and psychological factors that influence anesthetic agent selection and management plan.
- Monitors patients in the operating room to maintain homeostasis and prevent injury.
- Records anesthetic information on the anesthesia chart for patient care, teaching, study, and medical‑legal documentation.
- Provides clinical supervision or guidance to nurse anesthesia, paramedical, and medical students and responds to emergency situations.
- Manages human resources activities of the department including recruiting, hiring, training, mentoring, performance evaluation, and salary planning.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Skilled in administration of spinal, epidural, and brachial plexus block regional anesthesia techniques.
- Proficient in placement of arterial, central venous, and pulmonary artery lines and interpretation of pressure monitoring and laboratory values.
- Familiar with interpretation of EKG, arterial, central venous, and pulmonary artery pressure monitoring.
- Skilled in respiratory management and blood gas analysis.
- Safe handling of biohazardous, chemical, and radiological materials with required safety training.
- Registered Nurse (RN) State Licensure or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) by Texas Board of Nursing (BON) required.
- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse – Nurse Anesthetist (APRN‑CRNA) by Texas BON required.
- Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) by National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association (AHA) required.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) by American Heart Association (AHA) required.
- Clinical specialty certification as determined by the department required.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) by American Heart Association (AHA) preferred.
- Master's Degree in Nurse Anesthesia required.
- Experience in a major medical center or a major trauma‑receiving hospital required.
- Experience in academia, such as work with nurse anesthesia students, residents, and medical students, required.
- Experience as an RN in critical and acute care areas required.
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
Location RequirementEmployees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
