Overview

The Clinical Nurse Medical Oncology role supports patient care delivery within the Medical Oncology G21 Unit at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. This 48-bed, four-pod intermediate medical oncology unit provides care to adult and geriatric patients ranging from 18 to 95 years old, including individuals with colorectal, gastrointestinal, and lung cancers receiving complex chemotherapeutic and bio-immunotherapeutic regimens, as well as management of treatment side effects, acute non-cancer medical conditions, cardiac monitoring, and infusion of cardiac medications.

The Clinical Nurse Medical Oncology works in a highly collaborative environment focused on safety, clinical excellence, and continuity of care.

The Clinical Nurse Medical Oncology plays a key role in delivering compassionate, high-quality care while supporting UT MD Anderson's mission of Making Cancer History.

The ideal candidate is a licensed nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, two years of recent inpatient nursing experience preferably in pediatrics or oncology, and demonstrated clinical competence, compassion, and the ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays in a fast-paced inpatient environment.

Minimum $32.69 – Midpoint $50.58 – Maximum $68.51 per hour, based on a 40-hour work week

The typical work schedule is Days, 7am-7pm, with rotating weekends and holidays required.

Responsibilities Patient Care Management
  • Manage and provide patient care in the assigned clinical area.
  • Assess patient needs for nursing care and multidisciplinary team involvement.
  • Collaborate with physicians, services, patients, and families to plan care and evaluate outcomes.
Clinical Competency & Practice
  • Demonstrate clinical competency and compassion in the delivery of patient care.
  • Administer medications, perform procedures, and manage emergent situations.
  • Document patient care according to established professional and institutional standards.
Technology & Research Integration
  • Access, input, and retrieve information from clinical and administrative computer systems.
  • Participate in data collection activities for current clinical studies.
  • Integrate research findings and nursing theories into clinical practice.
Continuity of Care & Advocacy
  • Ensure continuity of care through discharge planning and patient education.
  • Act as a patient and family advocate to support patient rights and informed decision-making.
Team Support & Leadership
  • Train, coach, and assist team members to support optimal patient care delivery.
  • Promote efficient use of resources and collaborative team functioning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education
  • Required:

    Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Preferred:
    Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
