Clinical Nurse, Outpatient - Ambulatory Treatment Center (ATC) Position Summary

The Ambulatory Treatment Center (ATC) Clinical Nurse demonstrates competence and competencies regarding all aspects of administering and monitoring systemic cancer therapies and other injectable infusions for adult patients in the Ambulatory Treatment Center. This role provides evidence-based direct patient care across the continuum to positively impact patient outcomes and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure high-quality care and appropriate use of resources.

The ideal candidate will have prior infusion experience, with chemotherapy infusion experience preferred. Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN®) or Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification is a plus. Candidates with backgrounds in Dialysis, Emergency Department, or Intensive Care Unit settings are also encouraged to apply.

Shift/Schedule

Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM.

Location

Northwest Houston Area Location - to include travel to ATC West Houston, ATC Woodlands, and/or ATC Main based on institutional needs.

Salary

Minimum $68,000 - Midpoint $105,000 - Maximum $142,500. Salary hourly breakdown:
Minimum $32.69 - Midpoint $50.48 - Maximum $68.51.

Key Functions
  • Infusions administered may include (but are not limited to) standard of care and research chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy, blood products, IVIG, growth factors, antibiotics, electrolytes, and hydration.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills. Has the ability to assess and educate patients and family/caregivers to ensure future care needs are met.
  • Develops collaborative, professional relationships with physicians and all members of the health care team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Specific competencies include
  • IV insertion and venous access device management
  • Accurate administration and monitoring of infusions via a variety of routes (oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous)
  • Performing an independent double-check for chemotherapy administration
  • Safe handling and disposal of chemotherapy to minimize patient and staff exposure to hazardous drugs
  • Continuous infusion pumps (connects and disconnects)
  • Management of treatment related side effects and adverse reactions
  • Minimizing the risk of infection among patients who are actually or potentially immunocompromised
  • Knowledge needed to facilitate early detection of specific side effects that lead to effective self-management of the side effect when it does occur
Education
  • Required:

    Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Preferred:
    Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
Work Experience
  • Preferred:
    Infusion experience as a Clinical Nurse.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Required:

    RN – Registered Nurse – State Licensure Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license. Upon Hire and
  • Required:

    BLS – Basic Life Support Upon Hire or
  • Required:

    CPR – Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Upon Hire and
  • Required:

    ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support If working in the following department: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761). Upon Hire or
  • Required:

    PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support If working in the following departments: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761) or Pedi – Child & Adolescent Center (113200). Upon Hire
  • Preferred: OCN – Oncology Nurse Certification. Upon Hire
Other Requirements

All clinical nurses with less than one year of registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program.
