Overview
The Clinical Nurse in the Acute Care Cancer Center at MD Anderson Cancer Center manages patient outcomes by providing, coordinating and supporting clinical aspects of direct patient care across the continuum of care. They impact quality of patient care, patient outcomes and use of resources in a designated area in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities- Managing patient outcomes by providing, coordinating and supporting clinical aspects of direct patient care across the continuum of care.
- Collaborating with physicians, other services, patients and patient’s family to plan care and evaluate outcomes.
- Improving practice by integrating results and theories of research studies.
- Participating in data collection for current studies.
- Demonstrating clinical competency and compassion in providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures and managing emergencies.
- Documenting care according to established standards.
- Accessing, inputting and retrieving information from computer systems, and assuring continuity of care through appropriate discharge planning, patient education and coordination of services.
- Acting as a patient and family advocate in order to uphold patient rights.
- Training, coaching and assisting team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources.
- Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing is a plus.
- All clinical nurses with less than one year registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program. This position is not eligible for the residency program.
- At least one year of recent RN experience in an ER hospital setting is preferred.
- Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN) required.
- Certification in oncology or other nursing specialty preferred.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.
- Three 12‑hour shifts per week (minimum 1,872 hours per year).
- $8,320 annual inpatient differential, paid $346.67 per paycheck.

- Midpoint Salary: US $105,200
- Maximum Salary: US $142,500
- FLSA: exempt and eligible for overtime, paid at a time and a half rate.
