Position: PRN Oncology Infusion Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Center - Houston, Tx

Texas Oncology is looking for a PRN Oncology Infusion Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team and support the Medical Center location in Houston, Texas. The position is Monday–Friday with no weekend or holiday coverage and no on‑call duties. Candidates may qualify for Level I, Level II, or Senior assignment based on experience.

What does the Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) do?

Under minimal supervision, the RN provides professional nursing care for patients, adhering to national and company standards, specialty regulations, and the US Oncology Compliance Program. The RN demonstrates knowledge of physiological, psychological, and developmental differences across age groups and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to assess and manage patient and family needs.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate, and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.
    • Assess patient/family needs and provide teaching and other instructional material.
  • Prepare and administer therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician.
    • Administer all medications/blood products using correct dosage, route, time, and technique.
    • Ensure pre‑authorization and appropriate consent forms are obtained prior to therapy administration.
    • Facilitate dose modification by assessing patient labs, consulting protocols or treatment plans, calculating dose, and consulting physician regarding dosage modifications, problems, and symptom management.
    • Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and maintain central line catheter devices.
    • Maintain accurate documentation of assigned patient care and treatments provided.
    • Apply knowledge of reimbursement procedures and charge capture.
Qualifications

Education/Training

Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education (BSN preferred). RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in the practicing state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Maintain continuing education requirements.

Level I – 0‑3 years of nursing experience, oncology experience strongly preferred.

Level II – Minimum 3 years of nursing experience, oncology experience strongly preferred.

Level Senior – Minimum 5 years of nursing experience, including at least one year in oncology strongly preferred. Oncology certification preferred. In addition to Levels I and II requirements.

Working Conditions

The work environment includes exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations, and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment. Physical Requirements

Requires full range of body motion, handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extended periods, occasionally lifting and carrying items up to 40 lbs. Corrected vision and hearing to a normal range required. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
