Nurse Practitioner Acute Care, Nights - ICU​/Rapid Response; Baytown

At Houston Methodist, the Nurse Practitioner Acute Care (NP-AC) functions as a licensed registered nurse and care provider, delivering all aspects of patient care—diagnosis, treatment, consultation—while maintaining and promoting patient health. The NP-AC may work in both inpatient and outpatient settings, operating under the Nurse Practice Act of Texas and as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team.

This role models compassionate communication, educates patients about preventive care, conducts physicals, orders tests, prescribes medications, and performs invasive and therapeutic procedures as warranted, always in alignment with the Houston Methodist Professional Practice Model.

Exempt

• Master’s degree or higher from an accredited school of nursing and graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program

• Two years of registered nurse, advanced practice, or nurse practitioner clinical experience

• RN – Registered Nurse – Texas State Licensure (Texas Board of Nursing) – must obtain permanent Texas license within 60 days (if establishing Texas residency)
• APRN – Acute Care state license
• Magnet ANCC‑recognized Acute‑Care practitioner certification
• BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (American Heart Association)
• ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support or Instructor (American Heart Association)
• AP – Prescriptive Authority – Texas Board of Nursing, Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation
• DEA – Narcotics License (Drug Enforcement Administration)

• Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English necessary for essential functions, especially where patient or employee safety or security is at stake

• Collaborates with the interprofessional health care team to manage/coordinate patient care; advocates on patient/family behalf to identify and resolve clinical and ethical concerns
• Fosters healthy relationships in the work environment; acts as a role model and coaches staff in effective communication; serves as preceptor for NP students and medical residents, where applicable

• Coordinates timely patient care under physician supervision for a defined patient population, prioritizing needs, abilities, and preferences
