Experienced Clinical Nurse - IMU

The Experienced Clinical Nurse at MD Anderson Cancer Center manages patient outcomes by providing, coordinating and supporting clinical aspects of direct patient care across the continuum of care. They impact quality of patient care, patient outcomes and use of resources in a designated area in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

G22 IMU is a specialized intermediate care unit providing advanced monitoring and treatment for oncology patients who require a higher level of care than a general medical unit but do not need intensive care. Nurses on this unit manage complex therapies, monitor for complications, and provide education and emotional support to patients and families.

Day/Evening shift (7am-7pm) with rotating weekends and holidays required.

• Manage patient outcomes by providing, coordinating and supporting clinical aspects of direct patient care across the continuum of care.
• Collaborate with physicians, other services, patients and patients' families to plan care and evaluate outcomes.
• Improve practice by integrating results and theories of research studies.
• Participate in data collection for current studies.
• Demonstrate clinical competency and compassion in providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures and managing emergencies.
• Access, input, and retrieve information from computer systems. Assure continuity of care through appropriate discharge planning, patient education and coordination of services.
• Act as a patient and family advocate in order to uphold patient rights.
• Train, coach, and assist team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources.

• Education Required:
  
  Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
• Education Preferred:
  Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

  All clinical nurses with less than one‑year registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program. This position is not eligible for the residency program.
• Experience Preferred:
  Must have at least one year of clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting.
• Licenses/Certification
  
  Required:
  
  Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN).
• Licenses/Certification Preferred:
  Certification in oncology or other nursing specialty;
  American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS, or PALS certification as required by patient care area.
• Minimum education:
  
  Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, RN license and at least twelve months of recent RN experience in medical/surgical or an acute care setting.

Hourly breakdown of salary range:
Minimum $32.70 – Midpoint $50.00 – Maximum $67.30.

• Three 12‑hour shifts per week, 1872 hours per year (minimum).
