Role Overview

PRN-Dayshift-Medical Center. At Houston Methodist, the Registered Nurse (RN) PRN Med/Surg position is a licensed staff nurse with two years of registered nurse experience in a healthcare environment. The RN PRN Med/Surg provides professional nursing care to a diverse patient population, conducts nursing assessments, assists with exams and treatment, teaches patients, and maintains medical records. The RN PRN Med/Surg delivers direct patient care efficiently and effectively, including patients with varied and complex needs.

This position communicates and collaborates with physicians and the interprofessional health‑care team to facilitate, coordinate, and maintain compassionate, efficient, quality care and desired treatment outcomes. The RN PRN Med/Surg demonstrates clinical competence when providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures, and managing emergencies, acting as a patient‑and‑family advocate to monitor and maintain patient rights. This position assumes leadership roles with progressive responsibility, including but not limited to participating in or leading unit and shared governance initiatives, serving as charge nurse or preceptor to students or new employees, and possibly contributing to service line or hospital‑wide initiatives in partnership with management.

  Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) indicated below in the Certifications, Licenses and Registrations section.
• Experience
  :
  Two years registered nurse experience in a healthcare environment.
• Licenses and Certifications
  :
  • RN - Registered Nurse – Texas State Licensure – Texas Board of  Compact Licensure – must obtain permanent Texas license within 60 days (if establishing Texas residency) and
  • BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) – American Heart Association
  • Preferred

    Magnet – ANCC Recognized Certification

• Demonstrates proficient time‑management skills.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft products including Outlook.

• Uses therapeutic communication, which includes active listening and teaching, to establish a relationship with patients, families, and the interprofessional health‑care team to collaborate on the plan of care.
• Contributes to teamwork with an awareness of overall unit acuity, consistently offering assistance, and responding positively to requests for assistance. Supports healthy relationships in the work environment.
• Implements staff education specific to patient populations and unit processes; coaches and mentors other staff and students, including preceptorship. Uses peer‑to‑peer accountability to improve department scores for employee engagement.
