Full-Time PACU Registered Nurse

Townsen Memorial Hospital is looking for a Full-Time PACU Registered Nurse to join our newest West team in Houston, 77072. Current, active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the State of Texas required.

The Registered Nurse PACU is responsible for admitting the patient to the clinical area and providing nursing care to the post-operative patient, as well as, developing a nursing care plan specifically designed for the individual patient. The staffing of the Center is based on a teamwork concept. Employees may be cross trained in other clinical areas and may be expected to perform duties other than their normal ones as staffing and patient needs change.

Essential functions include admitting patients to recovery unit after surgery, developing and maintaining an effective working relationship with patients, families, visitors, and other center employees, providing instructions to patients as advised by physician or physician assistant, educating patients and family, explaining nursing procedures and actions taken to help reduce anxiety, composing initial assessment, determining the nursing needs of the patient, identifying patients physical and mental status, documenting patient care delivered concisely, precisely, and accurately on all records or documentation as indicated by policy, monitoring the patients medical condition and reporting any significant changes to the admitting physician or anesthesiologist, completing patient care responsibilities and implementing doctors orders in a timely and accurate manner, communicating additional discharge needs when applicable (transportation, durable medical equipment), performing post-op calls to patients, protecting patient and family privacy rights by maintaining confidentiality of patient records in accordance to HIPAA requirements, policy and procedure, planning for routine events, anticipating/preventing and managing/evaluating emergent situations, ensuring the post-operative area maintains a clean and therapeutic environment for all patients consistently, ensuring supplies and equipment needed are available and in good working order, following all safety rules, reporting all accidents promptly and correcting minor safety hazards, communicating with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace, maintaining established center/departmental policies and procedures, adhering to the company standards of business conduct, and performing other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include understanding and maintaining clinical competencies (general, age specific and drug administration), demonstrating clinical problem solving and critical thinking, strong attention to detail, being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks, making decisions using evidence based analytical approach, ability to work independently by guiding oneself with little or no supervision, ability to adequately diagnose, plan and implement nursing interventions and evaluate patient condition, ability to adapt to considerable variety, unexpected changes (positive or negative) and respond quickly, physically and mentally when priorities and/or the patients condition change, demonstrating self-control to maintain composure, keeping emotions in check, controlling anger, and avoiding aggressive behavior, even in difficult situations and high stress situations, ability to accept criticism and respond calmly and effectively, ability to maintain compliance with facility policies and procedures, ability to sustain compliance with continuing and mandatory education programs, practicing nursing within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act of Texas and accepts responsibility and accountability for own actions, exceptional customer service, phone etiquette and possesses excellent, professionally polished patient interaction communication skills, strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word and EMR, ability to maintain effective and organized systems and records to ensure timely patient flow, ability to clean, maintain, and make minor adjustments to equipment, ability to respond positively to requests for assistance from other team members, ability to be enthusiastic with a desire to learn and develop new skills, and effectively acclimate to various work schedules to achieve high quality of care.

Education and experience include Associates Degree in Nursing or related field, Registered Nurse in the State of Texas;
License must remain active and unencumbered while employed, current BLS, ACLS and PALS, two (2) years of experience in a PACU or ICU environment, and must complete additional educational requirements as assigned by due dates.
