Research Nurse

UT MD Anderson bases its clinical care on cutting-edge research into the biology of genitourinary tumors, helping develop treatments tailored to individual patients. The Research Nurse collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, investigators, and sponsors to ensure the successful conduct of research studies. The Research Nurse supports patient care, clinical trial operations, and protocol compliance while contributing to improved outcomes for patients. The Research Nurse is essential to advancing research discoveries that promote survival and quality of life.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN), Registered Nurse (RN) in Texas, and Basic Life Support (BLS), and experience applying professional nursing expertise in a research-focused clinical environment. Candidates who demonstrate strong clinical judgment, patient education skills, protocol management experience, and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams will be well suited for this role.

The salary range for this position is Minimum $77,500/annually
- Midpoint $97,000/annually
- Maximum $116,500/annually

The typical work schedule is days, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Responsibilities Research Protocol Operations
  • Assess patients for protocol eligibility through personal interviews and medical record review in outpatient and inpatient settings
  • Assess patients for protocol-required follow-up appointments in clinical settings
  • Recruit, schedule, and retain patients accurately and successfully for clinical research studies
  • Coordinate and monitor patients participating in assigned research protocols
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support protocol execution and patient care
  • Document protocol activities in medical records and recruitment logs according to protocol and institutional requirements
  • Manage designated secondary protocol assignments
  • Review new protocol assignments for consistency and clarity
  • Create protocol-specific documentation reference tools
  • Perform day-to-day regulatory management activities
Patient Monitoring & Clinical Trial Management
  • Evaluate patient responses to protocol therapy
  • Assess treatment toxicities and adverse drug reactions
  • Report findings appropriately to the Principal Investigator, Institutional Review Board, and study sponsor
  • Prepare protocol summary reports as requested
  • Assist the Principal Investigator and support staff with protocol management, content review, and data analysis
  • Participate in organizing information required for monitoring and auditing activities
Patient Education & Protocol-Specific Support
  • Identify and address patient and family education needs regarding clinical trial treatment, evaluation, and follow-up
  • Educate patients through in-person discussions, telephone communication, and written educational materials
  • Prepare materials and records for external monitoring and auditing visits
  • Administer investigational medications according to protocol requirements and accepted nursing guidelines
  • Facilitate protocol orders, related testing, procedures, and consults
  • Participate in protocol budget activities and research-related charge management
