Registered Nurse, Emergency Room Night Shift

Townsen Memorial is hiring for a Registered Nurse, Emergency Room Night Shift to join our team at our Houston, Texas location 77072! Current, active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the State of Texas required.

The Registered Nurse, Emergency Room is responsible for receiving patients to the clinical area and providing nursing care to the emergency room patient. Additionally, providing direct patient care and developing nursing care plans specifically designed for the individual patient.

Essential functions include ensuring the emergency room and patient care areas always have a clean and therapeutic environment for all patients, giving instructions to patients as instructed by physician or physician assistant, ensuring supplies and equipment needed are available and in good working order, admitting the patient to the unit and preparing him/her for the admitting or emergent procedures, making initial assessment and determining the nursing needs of the patient, communicating additional discharge needs when applicable in conjunction with the emergency room physician, explaining nursing procedures and actions taken to help reduce anxiety, identifying patients physical and mental status, monitoring the patients medical condition and reporting any significant changes to the admitting physician or emergency room physician, assuring any procedure or surgical consent, pre-operative test results and History and Physical are in the medical record prior to any proposed procedure as applicable, assisting with transferring of patients out of the facility;

knowledgeable of EMTALA rules and requirements, reporting any important health history facts to the emergency physician/medical director, educating patients and family, providing patients and family members emotional support as necessary, developing and maintaining an effective working relationship with patients, families, visitors, physicians, and staff, utilizing and maintaining clinical competencies (general, age specific and drug administration), demonstrating clinical problem solving and critical thinking, making decisions using an evidence based analytical approach, planning for routine events and anticipating/preventing and managing/evaluating emergent situations, using downtime efficiently, aware of team members workload, responding positively to requests for assistance from other team members throughout the facility, adapting to unexpected changes, effectively acclimating to various work schedules to achieve high quality of care, protecting patient and family privacy rights and maintaining confidentiality of patient records in accordance to policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements, following all safety rules, reporting all accidents promptly and correcting minor safety hazards, communicating with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace, maintaining established Facility/Departmental policies and procedures, adhering to the company standards of business conduct, performing other related duties as assigned to support the hospital.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word & Vision (EMR), strong attention to detail, ability to maintain composure, ability to adequately plan and implement nursing interventions and evaluate patient condition, practice nursing within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act of Texas and accepts responsibility and accountability for own actions, excellent, professionally polished patient interaction skills and ability to practice collaborative nursing, ability to respond quickly, physically and mentally when priorities and/or the patients condition changes, high stress tolerance, ability to adapt with flexibility, ability to work independently, ability to maintain records, effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow, ability to clean, maintain, and make minor adjustments to equipment, ability to communicate professionally with patients, exceptional customer service and phone etiquette.

Education and experience include associates degree in nursing, two (2) years of experience in an supervisor capacity acute care environment, registered nurse in the State of Texas, basic life support (BLS) certified, advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) certified, pediatric advanced life support (PALS) certified.
