About the Clinical Center for Targeted Therapy

MD Anderson's leading Phase I clinical trials program, offering patients access to innovative, first in human cancer treatments. The team evaluates new immunotherapies, chemo therapies, and targeted therapies designed to block the molecular drivers of cancer growth. The center also conducts select Phase II trials to advance the most promising therapies.

Joining this department means contributing to groundbreaking research and helping bring the next generation of cancer treatments to patients.

The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor's degree and bring at least one year of clinical nursing experience, with strong preference for candidates who have worked in inpatient care or oncology settings. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent clinical judgment, a patient centered approach, and the ability to thrive in a fast paced, research driven environment.

Shift: Monday
- Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (1 closing day)

Salary: $68,000 - minimum $105,200 - midpoint $142,500 - maximum

SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Outpatient Clinical Nurse position manages patient outcomes by providing direct patient care, coordinating and supporting clinical and research aspects of care across the continuum. This position impacts quality of patient care, patient outcomes and use of resources in a designated area in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

KEY FUNCTIONS
  • Coordinates patients' care with the interdisciplinary team and serves as a primary contact for patients. Assists in directing patients throughout their plan of care as directed by the physician
  • Has general working knowledge of departmental research protocols. Ability to briefly review eligibility checklists, and coordinates with research nurse in enrolling patients and monitoring patients while on research protocols
  • Responds to voice mail and electronic communication with the patients, responding within 24 hours on non-emergent calls.
  • Acts on behalf of patients and family to ensure care that is safe and appropriate with consideration for values, multiplicity and human rights.
  • Participates in nursing and medical research and facilitates transfer of new knowledge to patient care.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • EDUCATION

    Required: Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing

    Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing

    LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

    Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.

    Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification if working in the following department: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761).

    Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) if working in the following departments: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761) or Pedi
    - Child & Adolescent Center (113200).

    Preferred: OCN
    - Oncology Nurse Certification, Certification in specialty practice.

    EXPERIENCE

    Required: None

    Preferred: One year of clinical nurse experience; inpatient nursing and oncology experience is a plus.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS

    All clinical nurses with less than one year of registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program.
