Registered Nurse (RN) – CVICU

Houston, TX | Acute Care

Contract | Days | Every Other Weekend Required | No Self-Scheduling | Onsite

• Provide direct patient care in an 18-bed CVICU at a busy, large Level 1 Trauma facility with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2, occasionally 1:1
• Manage complex cardiac and critical care patients including heart failure, STEMI, pulmonary emboli, arrhythmias, and MICU overflow
• Titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips including epinephrine, nor epinephrine, vasopressin, dobutamine, milrinone, amiodarone, cardene, and others as needed
• Operate and troubleshoot ventilators; competently perform suctioning and intervene in emergency airway situations such as self-extubation or trach dislodgement
• Manage advanced hemodynamic monitoring and devices including PAC, CVP, arterial lines, sheaths, IABP, Impella, and CRRT; administer paralytic and sedation agents using BIS and TOF monitoring
• Document all care using Epic EMR; interpret cardiac monitor strips independently using HP monitoring systems

• Active RN license valid for the state of Texas
• ACLS certification required
• BLS certification required
• Epic EMR proficiency required
• Minimum 3 years of CVICU or equivalent critical care experience
• Must be open to floating to similar units as needed

• Previous travel nursing experience strongly preferred
• Prior experience in a high-volume, high-acuity hospital setting
• Familiarity with managing MICU overflow patients and working in a mixed intensivist/cardiology model
• Comfort working with minimal patient care assistant support in a fast-paced environment

• Gain exposure to a wide range of advanced cardiac and critical care cases including IABP, Impella, and CRRT in a high-acuity Level 1 Trauma environment
• Respiratory therapy support is available in the ICU 24/7, and a CCU fellow is accessible around the clock
