The Hematology Laboratory at MD Anderson Cancer Center plays a vital role in delivering accurate and timely diagnostic testing that directly supports patient care and treatment decisions. Role SummaryAs a Laboratory Technician in Hematology, you will support critical laboratory operations by ensuring specimens are accurately received, processed, and prepared in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Responsibilities- Accession, process, and ensure integrity of all specimens in compliance with policies.
- Perform and document quality control and quality assurance activities.
- Maintain accurate records and support regulatory compliance.
- Prioritize tasks to meet turnaround time expectations and support inventory monitoring and supply management.
- Collaborate with peers, train new staff or students, and support smooth handoffs between shifts.
- Communicate with internal and external stakeholders professionally and customer‑focused.
- Work independently while remaining adaptable in a dynamic environment, maintaining composure during high‑demand situations.
- Contribute to positive customer service by complying with telephone courtesy policies and reporting problem resolutions to callers.
- Show calmness under varying environmental circumstances and assist with crisis situations.
- Maintain personal hygiene and adhere to the section/divisional dress code.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Correctly receives, accessions, processes, and assures proper identification of specimens.
- Evaluates specimen integrity and notifies appropriate personnel of unacceptable specimens per departmental procedure.
- Acquires and maintains proficiency in computer functions.
- Independently performs work without undue reliance on others and assists co‑workers when time permits.
- Keeps abreast of new procedures and policies.
- Performs and documents all required quality control/quality assurance.
- Maintains neat, accurate and complete records according to established policies and procedures.
- Readily instructs new personnel and students regarding theories, techniques, and processes.
- Required:
High School Diploma or Equivalent. - Preferred:
Associate’s Degree. - Preferred:
Bachelor’s Degree in a science‑related field.
- Required:
1 year in a clinical medical laboratory or similar setting. - Preferred experience with a related degree.
