Position Summary
Orion Marine Group has an immediate opening for HS&E Safety Supervisor
. This position will be a field safety supervisor for the Gulf Coast Region. This position is accountable for developing and maintaining programs and policies in the areas of Employee Safety & Incident Prevention, Safe Work Practices, Safety Training, OSHA Compliance, Workers Compensation, Field Safety Audits, Emergency Response, Employee Wellness, Risk Management, Fire Protection, Pollution Prevention, and Safety Policies & Procedures incumbent is responsible for providing safety management oversight for marine construction operations in all geographic in which the Company has marine operations.
This position is accountable for the effective execution and technical support of the Health, Safety, and Environmental Programs at assigned locations.
Primary Responsibilities Focus On- Ensures that field safety programs and policies are in place to promote a safe work environment and that ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory guidelines.
- Monitors and implements the Project Specific Safety Plans, Employee Safety, Incident Prevention Programs, and Safe Work Practices.
- Works with the safety management team to establish short-term and long-term goals and objectives for the Company’s Health, Safety, & Environmental programs.
- Maintains a working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including Coast Guard, USACE, EM385-1-1, and MSHA knowledge as applicable, pertaining to safety, health, and environmental issues to promote compliance in each of these areas.
- Maintains a proactive internal safety audit program at project sites and locations to monitor Field Safety Representatives and operational employee work practices to ensure compliance with requirements and Company safety standards.
- Participates in addressing incidents and near misses through timely fact-finding investigation, determination of root cause, and implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
- Recommends necessary changes to standard operating procedures and corporate safety policies and procedures.
- Contributes to the periodic required updating and distribution of the Company’s Healthy, Safety and Environmental (HS&E) Policies and Procedures and other Company publications distributed to employees.
- Provides support and ensures consistency in the interpretation and implementation of HS&E policies, practices, and procedures.
- Provides support for the development of bid proposals for potential customers, for example:
Construction Site Safety Plans, emergency action plans & statistical information. - Works to provide administrative, analytical, and Safety project support and develops and maintains the Safety department office files and Safety Management System database.
- Assists with Safety inspections and Safety audits by participating as a team member.
- Assists with Safety statistical data analysis by identifying areas for continuous improvement.
- Provides claims (injury, damage and pollution) administrative support by reporting, documenting and gathering insurance-related information for the Safety and Compliance Manager.
- Keeps Regional HSE Management and local management informed on safety and health issues and progress toward accomplishing safety goals and objectives.
- Monitors workplace safety orientations for new employees, as required, and refreshes workplace safety training for existing employees. Develops improvements and modifications, as necessary.
- Provide Safety Training to employees such as:
New Hire Safety Orientation, HSE Policy Training, General Safety Training, First Aid, CPR and AED Training. - Monitors and promotes the Target Zero Safety program. Actively promotes recognition of successful efforts of employees and management to participate and improve daily work practices and overall safety performance.
- Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance with State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.
