Primary Functions

The primary responsibility of the Quality Control Specialist is to inspect, monitor, and document the loading and unloading of customer components and assets to ensure compliance with quality standards, customer requirements, and established procedures. This role supports the safe and efficient movement of freight, coordinates inspections to meet customer schedules, maintains accurate quality records, and inspects customer materials and assets for workmanship and compliance.

Qualifications

A highly qualified Quality Control Specialist demonstrates strong safety awareness and ensures safe work practices and standardized operating procedures are consistently followed. This individual is skilled in auditing and monitoring supplier compliance with quality standards and has the ability to inspect railcars and trailers for workmanship defects, non-conformances, and modification requirements. The ideal candidate must be able to work independently in outdoor industrial environments and walk several miles over uneven terrain in varying weather conditions.

This position also requires the ability to travel approximately 50% of the time.

Responsibilities
  • Promote and model safe work practices in all activities and work environments.
  • Operate equipment and tools safely and in accordance with established procedures.
  • Perform quality control inspections of loading and unloading operations.
  • Schedule and coordinate inspections to meet customer requirements and service expectations.
  • Maintain and update internal and external documentation, including Scopes of Work (SOWs), procedures, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Monitor, maintain, and accurately complete quality assurance and quality control records, including inspection reports, repair records, and field reports.
  • Inspect railcars, trailers, and other assets for workmanship defects, non-conformances, and compliance with modification requirements at various locations.
  • Support demand planning activities and requisition labor, materials, and other project resources as needed.
  • Track and manage travel expenses, stipends, and per diem expenditures.
  • Regularly lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized, and operational condition.
  • Safely collect, handle, and dispose of materials in accordance with company policies and applicable regulations.
Requirements
  • Working experience with computer programs (Microsoft Dynamics, SharePoint, Excel and Word) required.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience and/or training.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a management role.
Education and Certification
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; a four-year degree is preferred.
  • Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) required.
  • eRail Safety Clearance is required.
