A Lead Quality Inspector is responsible for ensuring that products or services meet established quality standards and specifications. They perform inspections, tests, and audits to identify any defects or deviations from quality requirements. Quality Inspectors use various tools and techniques to measure and evaluate the quality of materials, components, and finished products. They document and report any non‑conformities and work closely with production teams to address quality issues and implement corrective actions.
Additionally, they may participate in the development and improvement of quality control processes and procedures. The Lead Quality inspector will be responsible for training and leading teams of inspectors.
- To train their Inspection Crew in the Final Inspection and Test of Bus duct, Low and Medium voltage Motor Control, Low and Medium voltage Switchgear and PCR.
- To train their Inspection Crew to perform these tests if necessary for Powell Customers and/or their representatives during witnessed customer inspections.
- Inspect and test all equipment manufactured at Powell facilities.
- Interface with shop, engineering, sales, customers and shipping.
- Attend department safety and training meetings.
- Attend pre‑inspection meetings with sales and customers.
- Assist in scheduling Customer Inspections.
- Adhere to all company policies and safety rules.
- Record shop discrepancies and shortages.
- Record engineering discrepancies.
- Check all test/inspection documentation completed by crew.
- Check all shipping documentation completed by crew.
- Check that all maintenance on assigned test equipment has been completed.
- Review and turn in all inspection documentation.
- Supervises Inspection crew and trains all inspectors.
- Assist Inspection Supervisor in daily supervision of department.
- Act as backup Inspection Supervisor in Inspection Supervisors absence.
- High School Diploma or General Education Diploma.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in the industrial electrical field and/or associate degree in electrical technology.
- Minimum 3 years supervisory skills.
- Advanced knowledge of electrical theory.
- Proficient with the use of handheld test equipment such as multimeter, clamp‑on meter, voltage detector, etc.
- Ability to answer technical questions from shop, inspectors, and customers.
- Ability to interact on a regular basis with shop, inspection, engineering, sales and shipping personnel.
- Able to apply product knowledge and technical skills to aid in problem solving.
- Basic computer skills using Oracle, Word, Excel and Access.
- Knowledge of IEEE standards for Circuit Breakers, Switchgear, and Switches applicable to Powell equipment.
- Knowledge of NEMA standards applicable to Powell equipment.
- Knowledge of National Electric Code as applicable to Powell equipment.
- Able to read and interpret electrical symbols, characters, and drawings.
- Basic understanding of power system and relay applications as applied to products.
- Ability to apply industry standards as applicable to job and product.
- Innovative to improve existing products.
- Knowledge of Standard First Aid and CPR.
- Technical writing skills.
- Must be proficient in the English language, both written and verbal.
- Outdoor/Indoor construction/manufacturing environment primarily temperature controlled. Exposed to electrical, noise, cut hazards etc.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) (i.e., arc flash, safety shoes, hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection) as required.
- Must be able to work on platform ladders and other elevated work surfaces at heights greater than four feet.
- Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs or step ladders.
- Must stand and place body in delicate positions for extended periods of time.
- Required to use upper extremities frequently, work with both arms above and below shoulders and use both arms at full length frequently.
- Must be able to meet physical lifting demand up to 50lbs.
