Railcar Repair Quality Assurance Manager

Overview

Transco Rail Services, part of Marmon Holdings (backed by Berkshire Hathaway), leads in railcar repair and related services across North America. This role focuses on quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement within our railcar repair operation. We are seeking a Quality Assurance Manager who specializes in safety, compliance, customer satisfaction, and building high‑performing teams.

• Lead and manage the site’s Quality Assurance program to ensure compliance with AAR, FRA, OSHA, EPA, customer, and company requirements.
• Oversee and develop Quality Control Inspectors while promoting accountability, quality, and continuous improvement.
• Coordinate internal and external audits, certifications, recertifications, and regulatory compliance activities.
• Perform facility inspections, final railcar inspections, and documentation reviews to ensure compliance requirements are met.
• Lead root cause analyses, corrective action programs, and non-conformance investigations to improve product quality and reduce rework.
• Maintain employee qualification records, training programs, certifications, equipment calibrations, and compliance documentation.
• Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Safety, Engineering, Human Resources, and Materials teams to support operational excellence.
• Build strong customer relationships and coordinate responses to customer and regulatory findings.
• Monitor quality performance metrics and implement improvement initiatives that enhance compliance, safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.

• A quality-focused leader with strong understanding of regulatory compliance, quality systems, employee development, and industrial operations.
• Requirements:
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a production, manufacturing, repair, or quality-focused environment.
  • Experience managing quality programs, audits, compliance initiatives, and corrective actions.
  • Strong understanding of root cause analysis, continuous improvement, and quality management principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Ability to work independently while balancing multiple priorities.
• Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Railcar, tank car, heavy industrial, manufacturing, or repair industry experience.
  • NDT certifications and/or VT Level II/CWI, UT/UTT Level II, RVI Level II, PT, BT, or MT certifications.
  • Experience with AAR, FRA, customer, and rail-industry regulatory compliance programs.
  • Previous leadership and employee development experience.

• Supervises and develops Quality Control Inspectors; provides coaching, training, and performance feedback.
• Partners with facility leadership on employee development, performance management, and corrective actions.

• Shift: Primarily First Shift with flexibility into off‑shifts;
  Monday – Friday 6:00am – 4:30pm
• Compensation: $95,000 – $115,000
• Work Environment:
  Active railcar repair and industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, moving equipment, varying temperatures, and outdoor conditions. Includes walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, and shop‑floor inspections. PPE required as needed.
