We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to lead supplier quality assurance, procurement quality oversight, and supplier performance management activities in a dynamic aerospace environment. This role is responsible for ensuring suppliers meet contractual, regulatory, and quality requirements while supporting a reliable, compliant, and high-performing supply chain. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to operational excellence and continuous improvement.
ResponsibilitiesThe Quality Engineer will:
- Develop, implement, and maintain supplier quality processes in accordance with AS9100 standards, contractual obligations, customer requirements, and company policies.
- Manage supplier qualification, approval, and ongoing performance monitoring activities, including maintenance of the Approved Supplier List (ASL).
- Define, review, and approve quality flow-down requirements for purchased products and services.
- Conduct supplier audits, assessments, and surveillance activities to verify compliance with quality, technical, and contractual requirements.
- Perform source inspections and verification activities for purchased products, materials, and services.
- Review supplier documentation, certifications, inspection records, and quality data to ensure compliance with applicable requirements.
- Establish and monitor supplier quality performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Partner with suppliers to strengthen quality systems, improve performance, and drive corrective and preventive actions.
- Investigate supplier-related quality issues and coordinate containment, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
- Manage Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) and verify effectiveness of corrective actions.
- Analyze nonconformance trends and supplier performance data to identify risks and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop and present supplier quality reports, performance dashboards, and status updates to program and leadership teams.
- Create and maintain quality procedures, work instructions, and process documentation.
- Collaborate with procurement, engineering, manufacturing, program management, and quality teams to support program execution and supplier readiness.
- Support project planning and execution by identifying quality risks, supplier requirements, and mitigation strategies.
- Communicate supplier performance, quality concerns, and project status to internal and external stakeholders.
- Support strategic quality initiatives and special projects as assigned.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of quality management systems, processes, and best practices.
Required Education/Experience/
Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, or a related technical discipline, plus fifteen (15) years of experience in Supplier Quality Engineering, Procurement Quality Engineering, Supplier Management, or a related quality role within aerospace, defense, spaceflight, or other highly regulated industries.
- Thorough knowledge of AS9100 Quality Management System requirements.
- Experience conducting supplier audits, assessments, source inspections, and purchased product verification activities.
- Experience reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, contracts, purchase orders, and technical requirements.
- Experience managing supplier quality issues, nonconformances, corrective actions, and risk mitigation activities.
- Demonstrated expertise in Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA), containment, preventive action, and continuous improvement methodologies.
