Job Summary:
Document Controller, Houston TX
The Document Controller manages the lifecycle, revision control, and archival of all quality, engineering, and manufacturing documentation within an AS9100 Rev D certified environment. This role is directly responsible for assembling, auditing, and releasing comprehensive Certificate of Conformance (C of
C) and quality data packages required for aerospace, defense, and high-reliability industrial customers.
Quality & Aerospace Documentation Packages
- Compile, verify, and deliver rigorous Certificate of Conformance (C of
C) data books and documentation packages for aerospace shipments. - Audit supporting package records:
Material Test Reports (MTRs), Mill Certs, First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR per AS9102), Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) results, special process certs (heat treat, welding, plating), and calibration logs. - Reconcile purchase order quality flow-downs and customer quality clauses (Q-Notes) against the completed document package to guarantee 100% compliance prior to product release.
- Maintain customer portal access as required for customer-specific document transfers.
- Maintain and enforce document control procedures per AS9100 Rev D requirements, ensuring only current, approved engineering drawings, routings, work instructions, and specifications are in use on the shop floor.
- Administer the Engineering Change Order/Notice (ECO/ECN) workflow, tracking approvals, updating revision logs, and archiving obsolete documents to prevent unintended use.
- Coordinate customer-facing document submittals (SDRLs/CDRLs, deviation requests, and document approvals) and log return statuses.
- Maintain digital document archives, traveler sign-offs, and certification records within the ERP/QMS software.
- Support internal, registrar, customer, and regulatory (e.g., Nadcap, FAA, defense) audits by rapidly retrieving traceable objective evidence and quality records.
- Manage record retention schedules per statutory, regulatory, and customer-specific duration requirements.
- Prepare Inspection Reports for review and final sign off by QC inspectors.
- High School Diploma or equivalent;
Associate’s degree or technical certification preferred. - 2+ years of document control or quality administrative experience in an aerospace, defense, precision manufacturing, or pressure-vessel/welding manufacturing environment.
- Direct experience with AS9100 (Rev
D) and/or ISO 9001 document control standards. - Proven track record compiling aerospace C of C data packages and auditing MTRs, special process certifications, and AS9102 First Article Inspection documentation.
- Proficiency with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) / Quality Management Systems (QMS) and advanced PDF editing/compilation tools (e.g., Adobe Acrobat Pro, Bluebeam Revu).
- High attention to detail with strong organizational, communication, and cross-functional auditing skills.
- Familiarity with thin-walled metal bellows, expansion joints, metallic hoses, or welded assemblies.
- ITAR/EAR Compliance:
Experience handling ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) and EAR (Export Administration Regulations) restricted data, given that aerospace bellows can be used in defense or military aviation applications. - Experience managing documentation for raw material certifications (MTRs), material test reports, and special processes (like welding, NDT/Non-Destructive Testing, and heat-treating) common in bellows production.
Bellows Systems Inc. (BSI) offers a great work environment, professional development, challenging careers, and competitive compensation with healthcare benefits.
