Quality Inspector

Job Description

SUMMARY

Performs in-process, first-article, and final inspections of engineered fasteners and related products to verify conformance to customer drawings, purchase order requirements, industry specifications, and internal procedures. Documents inspection results, identifies and segregates nonconforming material, and supports the quality management system.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Perform visual and dimensional inspections on raw material, in-process, and finished parts per drawings, work orders, and inspection plans.

Operate and read precision measuring and inspection equipment, including calipers, OD micrometers, pitch micrometers, thread ring and plug gauges (GO/NO-GO), height gauges, surface plates, and optical comparators.

Perform review material test reports (MTRs) and certifications for traceability and compliance. Including reviewing reports of outside-processed parts (heat treat, coating).

Identify, tag, and segregate nonconforming material, and write Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) for rejectable materials.

Verify part markings, head stamping, heat and lot numbers, and traceability throughout production.

Perform hardness testing and other mechanical tests as required.

Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T callouts.

Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized inspection area.

Prepare and maintains quality assurance documentation required by the Company and documentation required by the Laboratory.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma and three (3) years experience in quality assurance at least two (2) of which are related to fastener testing and inspection and the preparation and maintenance of associated documentation or GED or four (4) years experience in quality assurance at least two (2) of which are related to fastener testing and inspection. Training in ISO 9000 and ISO Guide 25 requirements.

Working knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO/IEC 17025, and, as applicable, AS9100 or API Q1 quality systems.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

COMPUTER SKILLS
Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and the company's ERP and quality systems for entering and retrieving inspection data.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
