The Research Assistant I (RAI) in the Cancer Systems Imaging department will play a key role in supporting scientific discovery. Working under the guidance of the Principal Investigator, the RAI will perform laboratory experiments, maintain research equipment, and assist with day‑to‑day lab operations. This role offers hands‑on training in molecular biology, chemistry techniques, animal studies, and imaging technologies—ideal for candidates interested in developing strong research skills and pursuing future scientific or medical career paths.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree and one year of research experience.

Hours:
Monday & Wednesday (8am - 5pm) / Thursday (8am - Noon). This job is part time.
Hybrid: 90% onsite - 10% remote.
Key Responsibilities Research Support (70%)- Conduct laboratory experiments under faculty and senior research staff supervision.
- Perform benchtop work including:
- DNA/RNA extraction, cloning, PCR, and protein analyses
- Chemistry techniques, peptide synthesis/purification, and compound characterization
- Tumor cell line culture, stable cell transduction, radioisotope uptake assays
- Animal‑related procedures (injections, tissue harvest)
- Bioluminescence and PET imaging
- Maintain accurate records and evaluate research data in accordance with established methods.
- Operate and maintain laboratory instruments including high‑speed centrifuges, pH meters, and microfuges.
- Support general lab operations, such as:
- Cleaning and maintaining equipment
- Organizing and restocking supplies
- Processing orders and handling deliveries
- Preparing materials for autoclaving and maintaining glassware
- Apply fundamental scientific knowledge to laboratory techniques and troubleshooting.
- Review scientific literature and discuss new methodologies with supervisors.
- Learn and master new skills required for ongoing research projects.
- Document, interpret, and report experimental results.
