Provide analytical support with the development and implementation of a comprehensive and integrated research security program for UT MD Anderson that protects critical research and secures the academic environment from undue foreign influence, as well as ensure effective implementation of requirements of the National Security Presidential Memorandum (NSPM-33), Texas HB-127, and Texas GA-48. The position will report to and work closely with the Program Manager, Research Security.

In this environment, the Research Security Analyst contributes to safeguarding critical research, supporting responsible international collaboration, and ensuring institutional readiness to meet evolving research security expectations. The Research Security Analyst works in close partnership with internal stakeholders across UT MD Anderson to promote compliance, informed decision-making, and responsible stewardship of research activities.

The ideal candidate is detail oriented and analytical, with experience supporting compliance, risk assessment, or research administration in an academic, healthcare, or government setting, and demonstrates the ability to apply independent judgment while working collaboratively with various partners.

Responsibilities
  • Review open source intelligence in response to entity check requests from Legal, Strategic Industry Ventures, Office of Technology Commercialization, and other internal departments.
  • Apply analytical skills and independent judgment to assess research security risks and document findings.
  • Facilitate research security risk reviews related to new faculty hires, federal and state funded awards, international travel, and other activities when deemed appropriate.
  • Conduct reviews of faculty and researcher international outside activities to identify potential research security risks.
  • Identify and help mitigate risks to the university related to research security activities.
  • Foster compliance with university, state, and federal regulations, policies, and requirements related to U.S. government research funding.
  • Maintain knowledge of evolving research security program requirements and best practices.
  • Participate in the national research security community to stay informed of changes in federal and state regulations and agency policies.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned in support of the Research Security program.
Education
  • Required:

    Bachelor's Degree.
  • Preferred:
    Master's Degree.
Experience
  • Required:

    Two years sponsored research, conflicts of interest, research integrity, international relations, or national security.
  • Preferred:
    Experience conducting open source intelligence reviews and research security risk assessments within an academic, healthcare, or government research environment, including evaluating international affiliations.

This position may be responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, as defined in Section 113.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code and therefore may require routine reviews and screening. The ability to satisfy and maintain all requirements necessary to ensure the continued security and integrity of such infrastructure is a condition of hire and continued employment.
