Overview
UTHealth Houston’s Neurology Department is hiring a Research Assistant II to join the Kevin Lin Lab. The RA II supports senior researchers on basic and translational research activities, including general experiments, animal colony handling, data analysis, and presentations. Custodial duties involve autoclaving, washing glassware, inventory tracking, and keeping the laboratory clean and organized.

Position funding is derived from grants and is contingent on the continued availability of those funds. Employment may end if project, program, or funding is cancelled or discontinued.
Position SummaryUnder general direction, conducts basic and translational research, which may include animal work and other research activities. Research activities may include handling biological samples, performing laboratory experiments and activities, and data collection. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices.
Key Accountabilities- Perform laboratory experiments and activities to support research objectives.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including notebooks, records, and databases. May prepare graphic representations of data results.
- Maintain clean laboratory equipment and work areas to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Monitor laboratory supplies to ensure sufficient inventory for research projects.
- Stay abreast of new procedures and protocols for the research laboratory; maintain compliance with required training and may participate in continuing education programs.
- Coordinate the work of laboratory technicians, support staff, and other assistants to ensure efficient, timely, and high‑quality results. Resolve questions or problems related to routine or more complex duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's Degree required. May substitute required education with equivalent years of experience beyond the minimum experience requirement.
Minimum ExperienceOne year of related experience in a research or clinical lab environment. May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.
Physical RequirementsExerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
Security Sensitive- Position is security‑sensitive pursuant to Texas Education Code 51.215 and Texas Government Code 411.094.
- Requires research, work, or access to critical infrastructure as defined in Texas Business and Commerce Code.
- Must maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure and be subject to routine review to ensure compliance with criminal history and other security criteria.
- Residency requirement:
Must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
