Position is grant funded. Provides expertise in support of research projects in engineering,biology, mathematics, statistics, computer science, physics, etc.
Prepares and edits research papers, proposal, and reports. Performsadvanced testing procedures and analyses of data. May preparesamples for testing. Performs advanced testing procedure and performs analyses of data. Makes uses of a variety of specializedequipment typical within area of specialization. May contribute togrant proposal development.
This full-time position will require working with animals,conducting experiments in a laboratory setting, and laboratorymanagement. The candidate will need to comply with all governmentaland University of Houston policies, rules, regulations and codes,and maintain all training certifications required to work withanimals and conduct experiments in a laboratory.
Duties and Responsibilities- Conduct an extensive array of animal behavioral testing paradigmsand procedures including Morris Water Maze, Elevated Plus Maze, andY-Maze
- Collate data and manage research databases
- Administer compounds via various routes (e.g. intra-peritoneal,intra-venous, subcutaneous, intranasal) and perform venous blooddraws
- Perform biochemical assays including Western Blot and ELISA
- Operate the Mouse Ox Plus pulse oximetry system (Starr Life Sciences) for real-time physiological monitoring; experience running multiple simultaneous assays required
- Collect, statistically analyze, graph, and interpret resultsusing Etho Vision, Graphic State, and Microsoft Excel
- Manage and share data with lab members via Microsoft Teams/One Drive
- Help implement new techniques and procedures depending upon grantgoals
- General laboratory maintenance and restocking consumables through our online system
- Bachelor of Science degree preferably in Animal Science
- At least 3 years of experience as a Researcher or Research Assistant in an academic laboratory setting
- Extensive animal handling experience
- Experience working with both rats and mice and conducting minor surgery
- Proficiency in Etho Vision, Graphic State, and Mouse Ox Plus pulseoximetry system
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Teams, and One Drive for data analysis and collaborative data management
MQ:
Bachelor's Degree with 1 year experience.
