Post‑Doctoral Researcher – Electrochemical Safety Research Institute (ESRI)
We are seeking an independent researcher to advance the scientific agenda of the Electrochemical Safety Research Institute (ESRI) at UL Research Institutes (ULRI) in Houston, TX. The successful candidate will design, conduct, and analyze experiments focused on the safety and performance limits of energy technologies, with an emphasis on lithium‑ion batteries and other battery chemistries.
Key Responsibilities- Design, execute, and analyze experiments related to energy storage safety science.
- Develop independent research projects, formulating and evaluating new concepts, techniques, and methods.
- Collect and interpret data, validate results, and troubleshoot experiments.
- Collaborate with ULRI colleagues and external partners (universities, industry, etc.) on multidisciplinary projects.
- Publish findings in peer‑reviewed journals, present at conferences, and contribute to webinars.
- Support training programs and assist in the development of research protocols.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the Institute’s mission.
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (conferred within three years of application).
- Proven ability to conduct independent research and publish results.
- Experience with lithium‑ion or other battery chemistries and laboratory experiments.
- Strong data analysis skills, including proficiency in programming languages for data processing and report generation.
- Excellent written and oral communication, presentation, and teamwork skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to navigate institutional and federal regulations governing laboratory research.
- Competitive salary range $67,319.32–$92,564.06, paid annually.
