The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a Research Investigator to support the Department of Urology. This role contributes to laboratory‑based research focused on advancing scientific discovery through innovative experimental design, analysis, and collaboration. The Research Investigator will play a key role in executing complex studies, generating high‑quality data, and partnering with multidisciplinary teams to support translational research initiatives.

The Research Investigator is expected to work independently while maintaining alignment with principal investigator goals and project timelines.

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to independently design and execute experiments, manage research projects, and communicate complex findings effectively. Experience in molecular biology techniques, data analysis, and scientific writing is strongly preferred, along with a proven track record of collaboration and problem‑solving in a laboratory setting.

Salary Range:
Minimum $59,000.00 - Midpoint $74,000.00 - Maximum $89,000.00

Typical work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 5:00PM or as needed due to experiments.

Key Responsibilities Experimental Design and Execution
  • Design and execute experiments with creativity and scientific rigor.
  • Plan and conduct mouse experiments using oral gavage and injection techniques.
  • Measure tumor volumes using calipers and other lab tools.
  • Independently interpret and evaluate experimental outcomes.
Laboratory Techniques and Research Activities
  • Perform molecular biology experiments including Western blotting, PCR, Q‑PCR, stable transfection, and CRISPR/Cas9 editing.
  • Conduct tissue culture, including growing, counting, freezing, and maintaining cell lines.
  • Generate single‑cell suspensions from mouse and patient tissue.
  • Perform routine lab techniques including DNA/RNA measurement and solution preparation.
Data Management and Analysis
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of experimental protocols and results.
  • Enter and analyze data using Excel or similar software.
  • Evaluate data in accordance with established methodologies.
  • Ensure statistical validity and scientific accuracy of findings.
Collaboration and Communication
  • Work collaboratively with lab manager, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and clinical fellows.
  • Present research data in a clear and organized format to the team.
  • Read scientific literature and apply new methods to ongoing research.
  • Consult with principal investigator to refine experimental approaches.
General Duties
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and assemble apparatus as needed.
  • Adapt procedures based on project requirements.
  • Support team initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
Education
  • Required:

    Bachelor's Degree in Natural Sciences or related field.
  • Preferred:
    PhD in Natural Sciences or related field.
Work Experience
  • Required:

    5 years of scientific or experimental research work.
  • Preferred: 3 years of experience with preferred degree.
