These efforts advance mechanistic insight into cancer cell vulnerabilities and inform the development of more precise diagnostic strategies and targeted therapeutic interventions.
All duties and responsibilities are carried out in compliance with institutional policies, ethical research standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.
* LEARNING OBJECTIVES
* - Learn how to use a variety of biochemical, cell biological, and animal model systems to better understand the human genome and repair mechanisms used for repairs needed to maintain cell viability and prevent oncogene sis caused by endogenous and exogenous forms of damage.
- Investigate how human cells sense such damage and activate repair, and how/if processes are altered in specific disease states
- Understand how the cell promotes DNA repair in the context of chromatin, transcription, and different stages of the cell cycle, and the role RNA damage may have in cells.
* ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
* An individual holding a recent (within three years) Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g., Sc.D., M.D., D.V.M.) in an appropriate field who is seeking a temporary appointment, under the supervision of a faculty mentor, involving full-time laboratory-based research or scholarship in preparation for an academic or research career as an independent investigator. This appointment is not part of a clinical training program;
individuals holding an M.D. degree or equivalent are not permitted to engage in patient care activity.
