Hours:
Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. May be required to work on weekends.
- Perform highly technical chemical analysis according to clearly prescribed procedures and laboratory techniques.
- Perform bacteriological analyses on water, wastewater, industrial waste, and other environmental samples.
- Conduct routine and non‑routine analyses of sewage and industrial waste samples.
- Prepare standard solutions and reagents for use in chemical and biological testing.
- Review and interpret test results; prepare and distribute required reports.
- Maintain inventory; order laboratory chemicals, equipment and supplies.
- Handle instruments, troubleshoot and maintain equipment; make minor repairs.
- Perform sensitive or special technical assignments as required.
- Design and implement quality assurance products and follow NELAC protocols for testing and record keeping.
- Be willing to work weekends and holidays.
The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight), may be required.
Minimum Requirements- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- One year of laboratory work experience.
- Master's in Chemistry or a closely related field from an accredited institution may be substituted for the required experience.
- Preference will be given to applicants with experience in Environmental Laboratory.
- Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1‑6.
Yes. This position is subject to random drug testing. If a promotional position, the candidate must pass an assignment drug test.
Salary InformationFactors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification. Pay Grade 17.
