Bioinformatics Postdoctoral Fellow

Bioinformatics Postdoctoral Fellow at the Data Science and Informatics Core for Cancer Research (DSICCR) within UTHealth is a research position in Dr. W. Jim Zheng's group at the McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics, University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.

• Apply chemistry and structural biology skills to study design, data collection, analysis pipeline development, data analysis, algorithm development, results interpretation, manuscript writing and proposal development for protein structure prediction projects.
• Collaborate with UTHealth and external faculty to foster interdisciplinary AI and data science research.

DSICCR is known for data science, informatics, and AI. Past postdocs contributed to high-impact publications and national/international competitions.

Access to computing infrastructure including a Hadoop cluster, a large memory server, Nvidia GPU servers, and HPC clusters at the Texas Advanced Computing Center.

Located in the Texas Medical Center in Houston; this is a full-time, 12-month appointment renewable annually with comprehensive benefits. Anticipated training duration 2-3 years with multiple fellowship opportunities.

• Strong background in chemistry, structural biology, and small-molecule drug screening and development.
• Experience in protein structure and related data analysis; published research track record.
• Experience with experimental structural methods (cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography, or NMR) preferred; understanding protein secondary and tertiary structure.
• Programming skills; plus expertise in bioinformatics and quantitative analysis.
• Excellent teamwork and communication; ability to develop and maintain collaborations.
