Essential Functions

Assay Techniques: Perform assays for cellular toxicity, fluorescence microscopy, protein complex purification from cultured cells, biochemical assays for ubiquitin and RNA substrate binding, DNA break repair assays, biochemical reconstitution assays, RNA‑sequencing, DNA replication and genome stability assays, and protein and nucleic acid analyses, including spatial analyses, from pathology tissues to reveal disease biology and enable characterization of biomarkers for early cancer diagnosis and disease monitoring.

Assay Development: Develop molecular assays for early cancer diagnosis and disease monitoring in reference to immune and genomic biomarkers in oligometastatic genitourinary tumors. Ensure compliance with institutional rules that follow OSHA regulations.

Evaluation and Cataloguing Pathology Samples: Evaluate collected pathology samples in collaboration with a clinical pathologist. Maintain records of patient informed consents, coordinate with outside pathology institutions when needed, and keep good records of incoming samples while following good laboratory practices and HIPAA.

Preparation of Chemical, Reagent and Dyes: Weigh, mix, and aliquot a variety of chemicals, reagents, and dyes—including those noted as toxic and/or carcinogenic—using laboratory equipment such as magnetic mixers, pH meters, balances, centrifuges, pipetters, and water baths. Demonstrate good visual skills and knowledge of the various chemicals, reagents, and dyes.

Presentation of Research Results: Travel to scientific meetings as necessary to present experimental results, prepare manuscripts/abstracts, and have materials ready for publication in peer‑review scientific journals.

Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous records of experimental data and protocols. Perform the required computer analysis to provide slides and graphs of data and communicate findings clearly and understandably.

Literature Review: Read scientific articles and references.

Communication and

Collaboration:

Communicate and collaborate verbally and in print with other investigators at UTMDACC and other institutions.

Data and Presentation Preparation: Use a computer to record data, prepare presentations, and search and retrieve information from library resources such as Tex Search and BRS Colleague.

Manuscript and Abstract Preparation: Prepare and edit manuscripts, scientific presentations, and abstracts.

Qualifications

Doctorate‑level degree in a field appropriate to the faculty role and department mission.

At least 2 years postdoctoral experience preferred (unless not required for the discipline) or equivalent time as a basic scientist.
