Research Postdoctoral Fellow II – Official TSU Title

Under direct supervision of the U54 grant PI, this position conducts pharmaceutical science research in the Center for Biomedical and Health Research (CBMHR). Responsibilities include bioanalysis, drug absorption studies using Caco‑2 and intestinal perfusion models, drug metabolism using enzyme‑mediated models, metabolite structure identification, drug elimination and biodistribution using animal models, and providing services and technical support to internal and external users.

This grant‑funded position supports the research and development activities of the university’s large center grants, including the NIH U54 RCMI‑CBMHR Center, CPRIT CCPF Center, the iO3 Center, and TSU’s Catalyst. The postdoctoral fellow assists in grant and paper writing, presents research at local, national and international meetings, and provides help in lab maintenance.

• Operate, maintain, and conduct bioanalysis using Waters Acquity UPLC, Sciex tripleQ, and high‑resolution LC‑MS/MS equipment in the RCMI‑CBMHR core facility.
• Conduct drug absorption studies using the Caco‑2 cell culture, transporter vesicle membrane, and intestinal perfusion models.
• Lead advanced drug metabolism research, including preparation and characterization of tissue microsomes, development of in‑vitro metabolism assays, and evaluation of metabolic pathways and enzyme kinetics; conduct metabolite structure identification using LC‑MS, NMR, etc.
• Complete cell culture for in‑vitro ADME studies ensuring compliance with best practices, quality standards, and safety regulations.
• Maintain all CBMHR instruments, develop and implement comprehensive record‑keeping and compliance frameworks for program participants, staff, equipment inventories, and compliance activities.
• Prepare and review facility activity reports, research activity summaries, operational status documents, instrument usage statistics, and program status reports for users, university, and funding agencies.
• Assist PIs in preparation of progress reports and grant deliverables, ensuring scientific accuracy and timely submission.
• Publish data and publications in peer‑reviewed journals, present at conferences, and actively pursue external funding opportunities.
• Provide advanced training, mentorship, and supervision to undergraduate and graduate students, technical staff, and junior scientists.
• Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

FTE: 1.0

Salary Range: $64,197.37 – $81,851.64

Hours of Work: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday‑Friday

Required: Doctoral degree in a biomedical science‑related field with experience in pharmaceutical research.

None required.

• At least 3 peer‑reviewed publications as primary author.
• Experience with analytical instrumentation, ADME and PK research, animal handling, medicinal chemistry, etc.

Work performed in a routine office environment with no exposure to hazardous or unpleasant conditions. Physical demands are typically limited to sitting or standing for extended periods; occasional stooping, lifting or carrying light objects may be required.
