The Geothermal Lab Technician plays a critical role in supporting Mazama Energy's geothermal research and field operations through the operation and maintenance of advanced laboratory equipment, preparation of rock samples, collection of experimental data, and support of ongoing testing programs. This position is essential to the success of Mazama Energy's research initiatives, ensuring laboratory operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and to the highest technical standards.
Additionally, Mazama Energy relies on this position to maintain laboratory readiness, improve testing capabilities, support continuous laboratory development, and collaborate closely with engineers and scientists working to advance geothermal technologies.
The position does not have any direct reports and reports to the Laboratory Manager or designated Research & Development leader.
Essential Duties and Proficiencies Laboratory Operations & Testi- ng Operate and monitor laboratory equipment including geomechanical loading frames, heat reactors, autoclaves, Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) systems, sieve analysis equipment, and geochemistry testing system
- s.Conduct routine and specialized laboratory experiments supporting geothermal research and field operation
- s.Prepare small-scale and large-scale rock core samples, including basalt, granite, and other crystalline rocks for testing and analysi
- s.Perform rock characterization and mechanical property testing relevant to geothermal application
- s.Ensure laboratory procedures are conducted accurately and in accordance with established testing standard

Equipment Maintenance & Laboratory Suppo- rt Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and operational issue

Ability to work in the United States without sponso - rship.
Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Rock Mechanics, Earth Sciences, Geology, or a related technical disci - pline.
Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of hands-on laboratory exper - ience.
Experience operating rock mechanics or geomechanical laboratory equi - pment.
Experience testing mechanical properties of crystalline rocks such as basalt, granite, and other geothermal reservoir rock - types.
Experience preparing rock core samples and conducting rock characterization te - sting.
Experience with laboratory instrumentation, data acquisition systems, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance pro - grams.
Strong understanding of laboratory safety practices and proce - dures.
Excellent communication, organization, and documentation s - kills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary
- cations
Experience with SEM, XRD, geochemistry analysis, acidizing experiments, image analysis, or related laboratory tech - niques.
