Summary

We are seeking self-motivated individual to work in a laboratory at the Jan and Dan Duncan NRI focused on the underlying genetics and molecular mechanisms of genetic neurological disorders. Candidate will assist in several projects including Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, and MeCP2 projects.

Job Duties
  • Assist in molecular biology techniques and experiments including RT-PCR, RNA and protein isolation, western blotting, cloning, and immunofluorescence as well as biochemical assays (GBA and ARSA activity)
  • Will maintain mouse colonies, including genotyping the mice via PCR, mouse behavior, setting up breeding cages/weaning pups, dissections and perfusions, sectioning tissue.
  • Will collect, compile and analyze data along with postdoctoral associates the candidate will be assisting
  • Conduct literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular experiment
  • Document results of experiments in lab notebook
  • Select, evaluate and apply techniques used in routine research
  • Assist in day-to-day lab activities (make buffers, aliquot reagents and order and manage and order general lab supplies)
  • Train to passage and maintain induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) cultures, and to differentiate and maintain iPSC-derived neuron cultures.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in basic science or a related field.
  • Experience working with mice is required for this position.
