We are hiring a Biostatistician (Full-time) to join the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health in Houston, Texas.

This role involves querying large administrative claims databases to create analytical tables used for statistical analysis in public reports or peer‑reviewed journal publications. The candidate should be proficient with statistical packages, databases, and programming languages for data preparation, storage, transformation, analysis, or visualization, including R, SAS, STATA, SPSS, Matlab, SQL, Python, Hadoop, Pig, Hive, Map Reduce, Java, Tableau, Excel, and other big data frameworks.

Position

Summary

The Center for Health Care Data is the largest research‑accessible healthcare data repository in Texas. The position is for a recent graduate or early‑career professional to apply statistical analysis to improve health practice and policy using large administrative, clinical, and social service datasets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with investigators to determine study design, contribute to protocol development, and write statistical analysis plans.
  • Perform statistical analysis and inference, and write and present reports summarizing findings, including publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
  • Write program code to analyze data using statistical analysis software.
  • Ensure high‑quality statistical support is provided for investigational studies, projects, registries, and basic research using advanced statistical skills and knowledge of clinical research.
  • Maintain expertise in state‑of‑the‑art data manipulation and statistical methodology.
  • Conduct ad hoc analyses as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
  • Proficiency with statistical methods and applications in clinical or population research.
  • Experience in data analysis of large administrative datasets (claims, registries, EMR) and observational studies.
  • Proficient in SQL.
  • Experience with additional statistical packages, databases, and programming languages for data preparation, storage, transformation, analysis, or visualization; preferred examples include R, SAS, STATA, SPSS, Python, Java, Tableau, Excel.
Education Requirements

Master's Degree in a related health science required. Doctorate Degree (PhD) preferred.

Experience Requirements

Minimum two years of experience as a statistician with data analysis of large administrative datasets (claims, registries, EMR) and observational studies is required. Experience with SAS preferred.

Physical Requirements

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.

  • Position is a security‑sensitive position pursuant to Texas Education Code 51.215 and Texas Government Code 411.094.
  • Requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Texas Business and Commerce Code 117.001(2).
  • Ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired for and to continue to be employed in that position.
  • Personnel will be routinely reviewed for potential issues such as criminal history or continuous connections to the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary, a nation listed in 15 C.F.R.
  • Position may require compliance with Texas Government Code 791.4.

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
