We seek talented and motivated postdocs in computational biology to join the Cancer Genomics and Evolution Laboratory of Peter Van Loo at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. The post holders will spearhead projects inlarge-scale cancer genomics and evolution.
The Cancer Genomics and Evolution laboratory
Our research focuses on large-scale pan-cancer genomics to gain insight intothe genes, mutational processes and evolution of cancer. Our work is highlydata-driven, with a focus on large-scale data analysis to gain broad biologicalinsight and on the development of computational methods to enable conceptuallynovel analyses. The research group is mostly computational with a small wet-labcomponent.
Since its inception, members of the Cancer Genomics and Evolution laboratoryhave co-authored 22 papers in Nature, Cell or Science. Recent successes includestudies of intra-tumor heterogeneity across cancers (Dentro et al., Cell 2021), the evolutionary history of cancer (Gerstung et al., Nature 2020), biallelicmutations in cancer genomes (Demeulemeester et al., Nature Genetics 2022), combined DNA methylation and genomic alterations in lung cancer evolution(Gimeno-Valiente et al.,
Nature Genetics 2025), benchmarking methods forsubclonal reconstruction (Salcedo et al., Nature Biotechnology 2025), and the history of chromosomal instability in genome doubled tumors (Baker et al.,Cancer Discovery 2024).
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in computational biology (bioinformatics,genomics, …) and research experience in the field of cancer genomics, althoughwe welcome applications from candidates with diverse educational backgrounds,including computational biology, physics and (bio) statistics, biology ormedicine. Applicants must have a proven publication record. Prior experience with handling massively parallel sequencing data is considered an advantage.
Postdocs will spearhead projects in cancer genomics and tumor evolution. Theyare expected to lead their own project, contribute to other projects on acollaborative basis (both within the lab and with external collaborators) andguide PhD students in their research. The ability to work in a team is essential.
