Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Consumption of fruits and vegetables is associated with a decreased risk of developing a broad range of chronic diseases. Research projects in the Dzakovich Lab at the Children’s Nutrition Research Center (CNRC) are focused on defining how genetic and environmental conditions affect the chemical composition of fruits and vegetables and how these changes alter the efficacy by which they may benefit human health.
Under the supervision of Dr. Michael Dzakovich (USDA-ARS/BCM), the hourly laboratory staff member will assist with the maintenance of a plant growth chamber for intrinsic labeling. They will also assist with harvesting plants and data collection.
Job Duties- Maintains and organizes laboratory and greenhouse spaces.
- Assists with cultivating plants in a growth chamber.
- - Including, but not limited to, hydroponic plant production, making nutrient solutions, harvesting plant tissues, and maintaining associated instruments and sensors.
- Documents and summarizes laboratory activities .
- Performs other job related duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or GED.
- No experience required.
- Previous experience working in laboratory settings
- Experience with growing and maintaining plants
- Familiarity with common laboratory equipment (e.g. pipettes)
- Familiarity with sensors and wiring
