About the Role
As a Department Manager, you’ll be the leader supporting and encouraging your whole team. By bringing everyone together, you’ll create an inclusive culture that promotes collaboration and an entrepreneurial spirit, helping you, your team, and H&M succeed. You’ll ensure an excellent operational and visual experience for your store, customers, and colleagues. You’ll be aware of your store’s strengths, opportunities, and competitors, analyze sales, follow up on results, and create plans to optimize outcomes and profits.
ADay in the Life
Working at H&M means no two days are ever the same, but a typical day will include the following responsibilities.
Customer Sales & Profit
- You are responsible for the total OMNI customer experience in your store, ensuring visual and commercial curation according to global guidelines.
- Representing yourself and the H&M brand positively during customer interactions.
- Be aware of and take responsibility for your departmentatic strengths and identifying commercial opportunities and acting on them.
- Establish and analyze sales and budget goals, creating plans to optimize results.
- Ensure customer service is provided in all areas of the store and that your team can actively promote and sell products to customers.
- Follow up that your team actively promotes our Customer Loyalty App (Hello Member) and in-store sustainability initiatives.
- Manage your department in a cost-efficient way.
- Ensure correct routines in fitting rooms and at checkout, including transactions, returns and exchanges.
- Ensure all admin routines for both people and operations are handled correctly.
Fashion & Trend Awareness
- Keep up-to-date with fashion scene, trends, tendencies, styles, brands, products, competitors and relevant influencers.
- Ensure your team provides product and fashion knowledge during customer interactions.
Team & Development
- Responsible for recruitment, onboarding, performance management, upskilling and developing your team in-store.
- Complete performance evaluations and succession planning to support business and team needs.
- Retain and share your knowledge and skills with your team.
- Collaborate and plan with the in-store Visual Merchandiser team.
- Give and receive feedback to learn, develop and support each other.
- Responsible for the team’s planning and scheduling.
- Regular communication with store colleagues to inform, motivate and inspire – including daily and weekly meetings.
- Ensure all procedures, routines, and legal requirements in all areas of the store are followed.
- Participate in onboarding and training processes relevant to your role and future development.
Retail Operations / Visual & Commercial Execution
- Maintain a clean and tidy sales floor and back of house including stockroom areas.
- Ensure high fashion quality, visual and commercial product presentation with good garment care.
- Maintain stock levels and provide input on allocation to the Area team.
- Ensure the full garment cycle from delivery to presentation and fitting room routines meet standards and internal processes, utilizing all tools and technology provided.
- Keep up with best practices for in-store OMNI services and in-store tech tools (Instore Care App, Click & Collect, Smart Store, etc.).
- Maintain price signs in-store and on the sales floor according to global and local strategies and market requirements to ensure strong price perception.
- Update and maintain BOH areas with key information (health & safety, tidiness, etc.).
- Responsible for opening and closing the store daily.
