Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Know and actively demonstrate our Company Mission Statement and Core Values daily.
- Maintain uniform standards as detailed in the Employee Manual for all worked hours.
- Greet guests with a smiling face and helpful demeanor, using the Guest Services script for the division served. For Specs locations: offer the 5% discount, ask for the Specs Key, call the guest by name if possible, offer additional items, encourage donation to the charity of the month, and thank the guest for their business.
- Operate cash register or electronic scanner and look up products as needed to access UPC codes or prices.
- Ensure proper pricing by scanning the correct barcode.
- Properly use and maintain computers, registers, and scanner equipment.
- Suggestively sell items to guests at the register and offer add‑on items, including the charity of the month.
- Monitor merchandise brought to the register by stockers so accurate amounts are charged to the guest.
- Redeem coupons and weigh produce items when required.
- Ask the guest to read and answer the pin pad question before starting the transaction; never answer the pin pad questions for the guest.
- Check acceptable identification, use 36 sign‑in, to ensure legal sale. Use best practices and remain professional when checking IDs.
- Receive cash, checks, debit cards, credit cards, or gift cards.
- Issue receipts and any change due.
- Accurately count change back to the guest; do not hand a wad of bills and change to the guest.
- Bag or box merchandise. Use bags only when asked by the guest for multiple bottle orders; use boxes for appropriate items; bottle protectors only when necessary.
- Assist with carry‑outs when needed and feasible.
- Compute and record totals of all transactions on daily record sheet.
- Call the code for a cash drop as soon as the limit has been reached to maintain proper till balance.
- Keep work area clean and neat; do not overstock counter with merchandise.
- Count down drawer at end of shift and prepare final drop.
- Answer questions and provide information to guests.
- Resolve guest complaints with courtesy and respect.
- Avoid conversations with coworkers when guests are present.
- Avoid use of personal cell phone while on the sales floor.
- Stock shelves and check price tags as needed.
- Monitor checkout station, ensuring all needed tools such as register paper and paper bags are in stock.
- Prepare assigned areas for inventory and assist in the inventory process if needed.
- Carry out directives of management efficiently.
- Fulfill responsibilities with care and attention to detail.
- Practice teamwork and cooperation with others.
- Possess time‑management skills and prioritize tasks.
- Manage stress in a fast‑paced environment.
- Stand most of the shift, bend and walk occasionally. Use arms, hands, and fingers to feel, handle, reach, and lift. Lift and/or move up to 25pounds regularly and up to 50pounds or more occasionally using proper lifting techniques and tools. Push and/or pull 50‑100pounds or more occasionally. Communicate with and understand team members and guests. Observe product and payment methods.
- Work in accordance with all safety regulations of Specs Family Partners and OSHA.
- Complete other projects and tasks assigned by management.
- Clean the restroom as required.
- Maintain attendance and timeliness; working the register from home is not allowed.
- Minimum age 21 in accordance with state law.
- High school diploma or GED preferred; cashiering experience preferred but not required.
- Reading, comprehension, and writing simple instructions or memos.
- Ability to communicate with coworkers and guests; bilingual skills are a plus.
- Mathematical competence: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and discounts.
- Friendly, helpful demeanor; self‑starter with a strong work ethic and the ability to complete assignments in a timely manner.
- Valid TABC Beverage Seller’s Permit required;
