Sales Manager (Industrial / Tank Construction)

Location:

Houston, Texas

Salary: $85,000 $ 125,000 annually (based on experience and market alignment)

Position Summary

The Sales & Estimating Manager is responsible for driving revenue growth through strategic client development, competitive project estimating, and successful bid execution within the industrial and tank construction markets.

This role owns the full pre-construction lifecycle from opportunity identification through proposal submission and contract negotiation and serves as a key partner to Executive Management in expanding market share and securing profitable work.

The ideal candidate brings a strong blend of technical estimating expertise and proven sales ability, with a track record of winning work while protecting margins.

Key Responsibilities Sales & Business Development
  • Develop and expand client relationships within industrial, energy, and tank construction sectors
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities aligned with company capabilities and growth strategy
  • Serve as primary point of contact for prospective clients during pre-construction phases
  • Represent the company at client meetings, industry events, and networking functions
  • Maintain and grow a strong sales pipeline, tracking opportunities from lead to close
Estimating & Proposal Management
  • Lead the full bid and estimating process from RFP review through final proposal submission
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, and project requirements to develop accurate and competitive cost estimates
  • Prepare detailed budgets, scopes, and schedules aligned with project and client expectations
  • Ensure all proposals meet profitability targets and risk thresholds
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Engineering, Project Management, Purchasing, and Executive Leadership to develop winning strategies
  • Coordinate internal resources to ensure timely and accurate bid submissions
  • Align estimating assumptions with operational capabilities and field execution realities
Negotiation & Contract Support
  • Lead negotiations with clients, subcontractors, and vendors to secure favorable pricing and terms
  • Support contract review and ensure alignment between proposal scope and final agreements
  • Mitigate risk through careful review of project requirements and commercial terms
Market Intelligence & Strategy
  • Monitor market conditions, labor trends, material pricing, and competitor activity
  • Continuously refine pricing strategies and estimating methodologies
  • Provide leadership with insights on market opportunities and risks
Reporting & Performance Tracking
  • Track and report on bid activity, pipeline health, win/loss ratios, and revenue projections
  • Analyze performance metrics to improve estimating accuracy and sales effectiveness
  • Maintain CRM and estimating data for forecasting and strategic planning
Qualifications Required
  • 5+ years of combined experience in sales, estimating, or business development within construction, manufacturing, or industrial sectors
  • Strong technical understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and cost structures
  • Proven track record of winning profitable work and meeting or exceeding sales targets
  • Advanced skills in estimating software, Excel, and CRM systems
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and client relationship skills
  • Ability to operate independently while collaborating with executive leadership
Preferred
  • Experience in tank construction, fabrication, or heavy industrial projects
  • Background in refinery, oil & gas, or energy-related industries
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Work Environment
  • Office-based with regular client interaction and site visits
  • Occasional travel for client meetings, job walks, and industry events
  • Fast-paced, deadline-driven environment supporting active project bidding
