Job DescriptionHeadway Environmental is seeking experienced On-Call Field Biologists/Wetland Delineators to join our team on an as-needed basis. The ideal candidates will have a minimum of 3 years of field experience in environmental biology, particularly in Texas. Candidates with project management experience will be given preference. These positions offer flexible scheduling and the potential for advancement to full-time salaried roles within our organization.

Location:

- Conduct field assessments and surveys to identify and characterize wetlands, habitats, and wildlife populations in accordance with regulatory requirements and project specifications
- Perform wetland delineations, including field data collection, vegetation assessments, soil sampling, and mapping using GPS and GIS technologies
- Compile and analyze field data to prepare accurate reports, maps, and permit applications for regulatory compliance
- Collaborate with project managers, clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met within established timelines and budgets
- Assist in the development and implementation of mitigation plans, habitat restoration projects, and environmental monitoring programs
- Maintain compliance with applicable environmental laws, regulations, and permits, including the Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, and National Environmental Policy Act
- Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff members as needed
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, or a related field
- 3+ years of progressive experience in environmental consulting, with a focus on field biology, wetland delineation, and habitat assessment
- Proficiency in plant identification, wetland classification, and wildlife survey techniques
- Strong understanding of local, state, and federal environmental regulations and permitting processes
- Experience using GPS/GIS technology for data collection and mapping
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in dynamic field environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to diverse audiences
- Project management experience, including budgeting, scheduling, and client coordination

- Regular fieldwork or on-site inspections are required, which necessitate ability to frequently travel/drive a vehicle (sight, hearing, and manual manipulation of driving mechanisms), cognitive ability to plan travel, use maps or GPS navigation systems.
- May require ambulation and movement to enable walking or hiking 10+ miles per day on rough and/or hazardous terrain and occasional climbing, crouching, kneeling, balancing on rough terrain. Fieldwork may involve exposure to conditions of rain, sun, heat, wind, dust, etc., with exposure to animals, plants, wet conditions, biting insects, poison oak, etc. May require use of respiratory equipment.
