Overview
Come lead with us at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital. This is a full-time, 12 hour night shift role. The schedule is Sunday-Tuesday 6pm-6am and Wednesday 6pm-Midnight.
At Houston Methodist, the Security Officer position is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors by patrolling and monitoring hospital premises and personnel. This position provides assistance with personal protection, traffic control and emergency response services. The Security Officer may employ Houston Methodist-approved defensive tactics to ensure patient, staff and visitor safety.

:
High School diploma or equivalent education (examples include GED, verification of homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post-secondary education, etc.). - Experience
:
Criminal justice, security or related experience preferred. - Licenses and Certifications (Required):
Safety Officer state license (Security Officer Non-Commissioned) with submission of application within 14 days of hire date and obtained within one year of employment, or Security Officer Commissioned Level 3 or Personal Protection Officer Level 4 licensure;
Texas Driver License within 90 days; IAHSS - Certified Security Officer (Basic/Advanced/Supervisor); NVCRISIS - Nonviolent Crisis Intervention or Instructor (CPI).
- Preferred
: BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA).
- Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through ongoing skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
- Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English to perform essential functions, especially regarding safety or security.
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers with a customer service focus.
- Ability to multi-task and remain calm in stressful situations.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office and Webmail.
- Knowledge of Public Safety Policies and Procedures.
- Understanding of HIPAA and patient confidentiality compliance.
- Demonstrates emergency preparedness knowledge.
- Maintain high customer satisfaction while providing safety and security for patients, visitors, staff and assets.
- Use professional telephone etiquette and communicate effectively with management and coworkers.
- Respond to requests for personal security coverage, directions, information and guidance.
- Promote a positive work environment and contribute to a team-focused department; support department scores for employee engagement.
- Secure premises and personnel by patrolling facilities; monitor surveillance cameras and access points as needed (may include morgue area).
- Respond to radio dispatches, address calls and complaints, assess and provide appropriate assistance; make recommendations for emergent situations.
- Accurately communicate and generate reports by recording occurrences, observations, and surveillance activities; conduct witness interviews.
- Respond immediately to emergency codes and take appropriate action.
- Maintain a safe environment in accordance with safety policies, procedures, hazardous materials handling, emergency preparedness and HIPAA.
- Prevent loss and damage by reporting irregularities and enforcing policy.
- Utilize and maintain HM and department equipment per manufacturer specifications.
- Use resources cost-effectively and manage time independently while supporting coworkers as needed.
- Promote workplace safety culture and proactively prevent workplace violence.
- Support hospital and department goals and participate in department projects; pursue self-growth and development; maintain My Development Plan.
