Performs complex law enforcement and security work safeguarding priority resources, buildings, personnel, and property belonging to the Department of Defense (DoD), United States Air Force (USAF), Texas Air National Guard (TXANG), and the Texas Military Department (TMD). Patrols and guards property to prevent loss or damage, challenges unauthorized personnel, and employs force up to and including deadly force to protect personnel and resources.
Reports to a designated Military Supervisor and works under general supervision.
- Provides armed response.
- Performs Installation Access Control (IAC) duties and monitors others working at the IAC point who are not certified to perform duties independently.
- Conducts searches of commercial and privately owned vehicles at IAC points.
- Assists in authorizing entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and others to maintain security of installation premises.
- Performs air base defense functions contributing to the force protection mission.
- Defends personnel, equipment, and resources from hostile forces.
- Responds to active shooter situations as part of a small team.
- Conducts mounted and dismounted patrol movements, tactical drills, battle procedures, anti‑terrorism duties, and other special duties.
- Operates communications equipment, vehicles, intrusion detection equipment, individual weapons, perimeter access control systems, and other special equipment.
- Provides first‑responder self‑aid buddy care and life‑saving procedures at accident and disaster scenes.
- Reports unauthorized personnel, activities, and emergencies to the Base Defense Operations Center (BDOC).
- Performs security duties in accordance with safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment.
- Enforces standards of conduct, discipline, and adherence to laws and directives.
- Directs vehicle and pedestrian traffic; investigates motor vehicle accidents, minor crimes, and incidents; operates speed measuring, drug and alcohol, breath test, and explosive detection devices.
- Secures crime scenes; apprehends and detains suspects; searches persons and property; collects, seizes, and preserves evidence.
- Controls and safeguards arms, ammunition, and equipment.
- Issues visitor passes, gives directions, and handles complaints from the general public.
- Enforces all aspects of Force Protection Conditions (FPCON) and Random Anti‑Terrorism Measures (RAMS).
- Participates in recurring training to maintain knowledge on specialized tactics, techniques, and procedures for catastrophic events, terrorist attacks, and related threats.
- May be required to use force, including deadly force, in defense of personnel and property.
- Attends work regularly, observes approved work hours, and complies with agency state employee policies and procedures.
- May be required to perform duty in support of national emergencies, disasters, or other missions, including holidays and weekends.
- May work without notice to support business operations on holidays, weekends, extended hours, or rotating shifts.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Education: High school graduation or equivalent required.
Experience: One year as a peace officer, law enforcement officer, security officer, or military police; proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel).
Registration, Certification, or Licensure- Successful completion of Installation Access Controller Phase I Evaluation within six months of hire.
- Valid driver’s license (must be a Texas driver’s license within 30 days for new residents).
- Valid Level III Commissioned Security Officer License issued by Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Private Security Bureau within six months of hire.
