The Police Telecommunications Operator is responsible for receiving emergency and non‑emergency requests from the university community and dispatching calls to University Police Officers using a police radio.

• Respond to requests for service, information and other business received by telephone, emergency call box, or in person at the public service window.
• Transmit requests for service and related information to the appropriate Police Officer using a police radio.
• Input information into a computer database and review and correct data as necessary.
• Monitor campus fire and burglar alarm systems, acknowledge triggered alarms, and dispatch officers when needed.
• Operate radio consoles, portable radios, Dictaphone recorder, telecopier and other equipment located in the communications center.
• Issue equipment and supplies such as radios, batteries and keys to department personnel and maintain related records.
• Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

• Must obtain a TCOLE Telecommunications License within 12 months of hire.
• Education:
  
  Basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and simple math functions (percentages, ratios, etc.) typically obtained through a high school diploma or GED.
• Experience:
  
  No experience required.
• Certification/Licensing:
  Must obtain TCOLE Communications certification within 12 months of hire.

• Must have or be able to obtain a Texas driver’s license at the time of a bona fide job offer.
• Requires technical certification or licensing directly related to the job.
• Must be able to obtain a Basic Telecommunicator Certification through TCOLE within a year of hire.
• If you have a Telecommunicator’s license please attach a copy under miscellaneous documents on the application.
• Must pass a computerized criminal history check, background investigation, and drug testing prior to employment.
• Must be able to work nights, weekends, and overtime assignments.

• Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment that does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements.
• Employees work various assigned shifts, including day, evening, night, and weekend shifts, and may be required to remain at their post for an additional shift. All staff are essential personnel and are required to report to work during inclement weather.
• Position is physically comfortable; individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.
• Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks.
