QualificationsEducation/Certification:
- High school graduate or GED equivalency required
- Valid Class C Texas driver’s license (as needed for specific trades area) with a safe driving record to pass a DMV check
- State of Texas Registered Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Technician required
- State of Texas Class B Air Condition & Refrigeration contractor license preferred
- Must provide references that verify journeyman status and certify license standing
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to demonstrate skills to meet the performance responsibilities
- Knowledgeable of safety requirements for maintenance services of buildings, equipment, and grounds
- Ability to problem solve and work independently
- Complete understanding of chilled water plant operation
Experience:
- Proven track record as a journeyman for over five years in the industry
- Experience in all skilled applications for HVAC services
- Experience in the foundation of HVAC services
Responsibilities and Duties:
Maintenance and Operations
- Assume responsibility to make all skilled repairs in the facilities and sites owned by the district.
- Coordinate and supervise new installations, modifications, and repairs as requested on approved work request form.
- Exercise guidance and training for Crafts I and Crafts II when necessary.
- Examine district owned facilities on a regular basis for purposes of preventive maintenance.
- Receive and complete work orders in a timely manner. Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
- Recognize when, and provides required, assistance as needed to solve problems.
- Comply with working guidelines of the department.
- Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
- Respond to emergency calls as needed.
- Take all safety precautions related to all trades and reports any hazardous situations.
- Remove and/or advise foreman of any hazardous situations noticed while working on school grounds and sites.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing. Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures. Follow safety guidelines as listed in the Maintenance Services Department safety manual.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the foreman.
- Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding equipment and facilities.
- Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment to make sure equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Implement and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for tools and equipment.
- Ensure that vehicles and equipment are in safe operating condition and notify foreman if not.
- Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
- Must be available to work after hours per on call rotation to address maintenance emergencies.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
