The Maintenance Tech I performs general maintenance of the university facilities. Assists other trades with plumbing, electrical, mechanical and construction needs and will be expected to develop skills and attend training as outlined by the department to become proficient in several trades.
Pursuant to the State of Texas Executive Order No. GA-48, this position researches, works on, or has access to critical infrastructure and requires the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the University infrastructure. This position requires personnel be routinely reviewed to determine whether or not criminal history or continuous connections for the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the employee from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure.
Duties- Performs general building maintenance.
- Works with other trades to learn new skills that may include carpentry, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, welding, small motor repair and construction.
- Performs moves and coordinates surplus.
- Assists in new construction projects.
- Attends formal trainings and performs related duties as assigned.
All positions at the University of Houston-System are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check and a motor vehicle background check.
Required QualificationsSkills and Abilities
- Knowledge of general building maintenance.
- Skills in basic computer use including Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to learn a variety of new skills both hands on and in the classroom.
- Ability to perform and understand math for measurements and calculations.
- Ability to operate hand and power tools.
