W.T. Byler, a Quanta Services Company, is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic to support active construction projects in the Houston, TX area and surrounding Gulf Coast region. This is a field-based role responsible for performing on-site diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and repairs on heavy equipment to minimize downtime and keep crews productive.
The Field Mechanic will operate in active construction environments, traveling to job sites as needed and responding to equipment issues in real time. This role requires strong troubleshooting ability, mechanical expertise, and the ability to work independently in outdoor conditions.
What You’ll Do- Travel to active job sites to diagnose and repair heavy construction equipment in the field
- Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on excavators, loaders, dozers, motor graders, forklifts, and related machinery
- Troubleshoot hydraulic, diesel engine, electrical, and mechanical systems
- Respond quickly to field service requests to minimize downtime and maintain project productivity
- Identify and order required parts for repairs and coordinate with shop personnel when major repairs are required
- Maintain accurate service reports and inspection documentation
- Follow all company and client safety policies and procedures while working in active construction environments
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, preferably in field service
- Experience working on Caterpillar, John Deere, Link Belt, Mitsubishi, and similar major equipment manufacturers
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills in diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
- Fabrication and welding experience preferred
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and active construction environments
- Willingness to travel for extended assignments and respond to weekend or emergency call-outs as needed
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
